Precision Wood Machining are one of South Australia's largest cabinet door makers supplying many cabinet makers products from around the state. They also deal a lot with any product that requires routing, cutting or finishing with the use of MDF products.
As the size of the factory grows, PWM required an in-house system which could track jobs from start to finish. They also required a system which could grow as their requirements did and to not have to re-invent the wheel each time.
There are two main aspects to the job:
- to build a system which will track items as they go through the workshop
- to provide reporting facilities to admin staff and management regarding details of what work is being performed and at what stage the job is at any any given time
Jobs typically come in as faxes and then get uploaded to the system where they are electronically modified. Each job is then assigned to a client. As the job progresses through the factory, the machine operator updates the job through mouse-clicks which then update the master record which provides real-time reports regarding each job on the factory floor. Dynamic summary reports can be provided at any time through the use of input data by management.
The benefit of the system is the ability to assign work to different areas of the factory to best utilise the factory operators and the machinery. Managers are able to see if a machine is not being fully utilised and can reassign jobs therefore improving efficiency.
With this core functionality now installed and being used exclusively, Iugo and PWM are discussing further developments on how to extend the functionality and to gain even great usage from the system.
